Boise IONS May presentation

The Boise Institute of Noetic Sciences invites you to learn more about an incredible movement taking place in this country and around the world!

Our next meeting will be held Sunday, May 31st, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.  The place is Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, located off of Chinden Blvd., on 6200 Garrett in Garden City.  Everyone is welcome, and a $5.00 donation is suggested.

Our speaker is Sunny Freeman-Genz.  She became involved in a grassroots movement to create a cabinet level Department of Peace in 2005, and became the Idaho State Coordinator of the Department of Peace Campaign in 2006.  She will share her story of political activism, locally and in our nations’ capitol, as well as share the details of the great piece of legislation, H.R. 808.  There will be a social time after Sunny’s presentation to visit with her individually.
The following is more information about the Department of Peace:
“Domestically, the Department of Peace will develop policies and allocate resources to effectively reduce the levels of domestic and gang violence, child abuse and various other forms of societal discord.  Under one umbrella, the Department will build upon and bring together community peace programs currently in place around the country that have been proven successful.  Internationally, the Department will bring together highly trained experts in violence prevention, conflict resolution and peace building and advise the President and Congress on the most sophisticated techniques and innovative ideas regarding peace-creation among nations.  It will also research and analyze the root causes of war and other forms of violence to help prevent conflicts from escalating to the point of violence.  A Peace Academy, on par with the Military Service Academies, would train civilian peacekeepers and the military in the latest nonviolent conflict resolution strategies and approaches.  The Secretary of Peace would sit at the table of power to directly advise the President.
“This peace movement has also gained international momentum.  The “Global Alliance for Ministries and Departments for Peace” is a community of dedicated individuals, organizations and autonomous campaigns, supporting their national governments to significantly invest in the development of skills and infrastructure dedicated to the peaceful resolution of conflict”
“There is a new way forward, a way of peace.  As we shift our understanding and embrace these new possibilities, we will come to know that peace is not only possible, it is inevitable!  I hope you will join us!”
In Peace and Gratitude,
Sunny Freeman-Genz

  1. The Department of Peace idea is one of the few visionary pieces of legislation to come out of Congress in the past few decades that truly holds promise for reducing violence in the U.S. and abroad. I hope everyone who shares the goal of reducing violence will work with their Representatives to get this legislation enacted.
